By day, relax on the nearby Gumbet beach which is spacious, sandy and only a 15 minute bus ride from Bodrum. Take up a new watersport from the multitude of sports facilities available here, and kids can have plenty of fun on banana boats, pedalos and at water parks. By night, head to the mile-long Cumhuriyet Street, also known as ‘Bar Street’ for as much all-night partying as you can take. Bodrum offers great nightlife activities with its numerous bars, clubs, nightclubs and shows for the holidaymakers.

In between stints relaxing on the sandy and 600m long Gumbet beach on your Turkey holidays, have a refreshing break on a jet ski, go windsurfing, parasailing, water skiing, ride a banana boat, flying fish, pedalo or go scuba diving whether you’re a beginner or an expert at the scuba diving centre. If you’re having trouble deciding what to do first, take your time thinking about it in the many shops, restaurants and bars right behind the beach. If you’ve knackered yourself out on a jet ski, either head back to the beach or wander around some of the ancient sites of Bodrum which the current day resort has been built around.

Blue cruising in Bodrum mostly starts in early May and goes on till late October. There are various routes and boat categories for the holidaymakers to choose from. Most popular blue cruising routes are made by the Gokova Bay through Gokova, Gocek and Antalya.

If you love exploring the culture and want to see something more ancient than the Bodrum Castle, head to the remains of the Bodrum Mausoleum which is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology at the Bodrum Castle is a collection of fascinating relics from the lives of ancient shipwrecked mariners, with glassware, copperware and gold items from the ship on display. You can also take day trips out to many well preserved ancient sites from the tour operators in Bodrum, such as Milas, Labranda, Iassos, Euromos and Didyma. The ancient city of Ephesus is 2 hours away from Bodrum and contains the largest and most well preserved collection of ancient Roman ruins in the Mediterranean.

Campers and windsurfers enjoy Gumbet, and at Bitez colorful sailboards weave skillfully among the masts of the yachts in the bay. Turgutreis, Gumusluk and Yalikavak, all with excellent beaches, lie on the western side of the peninsula and those regions are very ideal for swimming, sunbathing and water sports.


If you have kids, chances are they won’t be enthusiastic about being dragged around partially broken ancient columns and antiquities from shipwrecks, so treat them to a day out at one of the two waterparks around Bodrum and Gumbet. The one closer to Gumbet called Aqua Park Dedeman Bodrum is by far the superior park with 23 waterslides, a 350 metre wave river, a wave pool, a range of other pools, a great selection of restaurants and a disco.

Boat trips, Turkish Baths and huge markets are also on offer here, the latter providing the chance to haggle for clothes made from local fabrics, kilims, carpets, mosaic lanterns, onyx vases and plenty of Turkish delight. Having a refreshing dip in a traditional Turkish bath, followed by a massage, body scrub, aromatherapy massage or oil massage is one of the special indulgences that everyone is allowed to treat themselves to while on their Marmaris holidays.

As for nightlife; the intense Bodrum nightlife is amazing. Most of the night-time activities in Bodrum takes place on the mile-long Bodrum Bar Street (Cumhuriyet Street) which is swamped with the largest and most extravagant nightclubs. Before you hit the clubs, take your pick of a huge range of bars which sell every type of cocktail and beer under the Turkish sun.
